This page outlines a few known issues about the MyBCC web portal not included in Frequently Asked Questions. This document may be updated as more information becomes available.
Issues for both Windows and MacintoshAdded 7/16/07 Additional Prompt When Opening Documents from Portal Sites - The first time a portal user opens a document from a document library in My Site, or at a sub-level of the portal (course site, or any portal workspace), the user will be prompted to log-in again the first time they attempt to open a file or use a service in that area. This additional prompt will only occur the first time a file is attempted to be opened in that session.
The cause of this is a result of the type of user authentication set up in MyBCC. The portal uses basic authentication which requires checking the credentials of each user when they attempt to access an area that maintains its own privilege settings. The prompt comes up to check to make sure you have adequate privileges to that area. Once the portal has verified you have privileges, the prompt does not re-occur. If a user does not possess privileges to a particular area, they will be directed to an error message with this statement.
Issues for WindowsPerformance Issues with Rich Text Editor Control in the Content Editor Web Part When Accessing with Internet Explorer 7x and Microsoft Vista Operating System - If you are using Internet Explorer 7.x and the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, you will encounter an error when attempting to use the Rich Text Editor in the Content Editor Web Part. The error is caused by the removal of the DHTML editing control in Windows Vista which Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 sites rely on to function properly. Microsoft has chosen to no longer support this feature in the operating system. The college plans to install a fix to resolve this issue as soon as the patch is made available by Microsoft. The Source Editor control for this web part should still function as designed.
News and Weather Channel Web Parts - If you are using Internet Explorer on Windows, the news and weather channels are available for you to add to your personal space, My Site. These are located in the My Site web part gallery. However, because MyBCC is set up with a secure URL, and the weather and news channels are provided by a third party vendor and are not secure, a security alert will pop up each time the page loads (reloads or refreshes) alerting you that the content is not secure. News and weather channels are functional, but because these resources are provided by a third party vendor and not by the college, this security setting is unavoidable at this time.
Issues for MacintoshLimitations with Internet Explorer - There are a few known display problems with accessing MyBCC using Internet Explorer on a Mac. We recommend a current browser such as Safari, Firefox, Netscape 7.2 or Camino.
Netscape 7.0 on the Mac - Netscape 7.0 is not supported by MyBCC. Users trying to access MyBCC using Netscape 7.0 will notice considerable increases of load times and the tool may timeout. If you are using Mac OSX, we recommend a current browser such as Safari, Firefox, Netscape 7.2 or Camino. If you are using Mac OS 9 or below, we recommend using Netscape 6.2.
Microsoft Office Integration - Some features in MyBCC provide seamless integration with Microsoft Office 2003 products on your desktop (such as Word, Excel, etc.). Mac users can still utilize basic functionality of uploading files into libraries, and working with most tools within portal sites, however some of the full integration features available to PC users are not available to Mac users. Specifics about these differences are still being tested and clarified. More information will be posted re: this issue in the future.
